Victoria Azarenka announced on Monday that she would not participate in this year's U.S. Open tournament.

Former world tennis number one Victoria Azarenka has pulled out of next week's US Open due to the custody battle she's having over her son.

"While I will dearly miss being in NY and playing in one of my favorite tournaments where I have enjoyed some of the best moments in my career, I am already looking forward to being back next year".

She had hoped an agreement would be reached with McKeague, from whom she separated last month, that would have allowed Leo to travel with her to NY.

The Australian Open champion in 2012 and 2013, reached the final at the U.S. Open in the same two years. That was all she needed to set up a quality run at Wimbledon, where she beat CiCi Bellis, Elena Vesnina and Heather Watson before falling to Simona Halep.

Williams, who is pregnant with her first child, also will not play in this year's U.S. Open. I want to support men and women everywhere who know it is OK to be a working mother - or father.

Two-time grand slam victor Victoria Azarenka has withdrawn from the U.S. Open as she is not allowed to take her baby son out of California amid a custody battle with her former partner.

However, the two-time finalist has withdrawn, with the US Open confirming Japan's Misa Eguchi has taken her place in the main draw ahead of the start of the tournament later this month. "No parent should have to decide between their child or their career".
