The L.A. Clippers have reportedly offered the general manager position to Oklahoma City Thunder executive Michael Winger, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Held in high regard around the league by executives, Winger has been referred to as "the man who knows the CBA the best of anyone in the league" according to Nate Duncan, a prominent National Basketball Association cap guy. Should Winger land the job, he would report directly to Lawrence Frank, who was recently named the Clippers president of basketball operations.

On Aug. 4, Clippers owner Steve Ballmer announced that Doc Rivers will no longer be the team's president of basketball operations, allowing him to concentrate on his primary coaching duties.

Winger is now an assistant general manager for the Thunder.

Winger, 37, is now an assistant general manager to Sam Presti in Oklahoma City.

Fred Katz is the Thunder beat writer for the Norman Transcript and CNHI Oklahoma as well as the host of the Locked on Thunder podcast. Frank is a two-time head coach with the New Jersey (now Brooklyn) Nets and the Detroit Pistons.

The Clippers traded star point guard Chris Paul to the Houston Rockets, breaking up a Big Three of Paul, Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan that had been together since the 2011-12 campaign.
