The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) through a press release on Friday intensely refused the hasty statements made by batsman Umar Akmal with regards to his exclusion from the ICC Champions Trophy squad.

The statement said Umar was given as many as seven chances to improve his fitness and match the standards of his teammates. "Umar was given a program to improve his fitness like other players before the West Indies tour and after he failed the tests in Lahore, he was left out of the team".

Responding to Akmal's allegation that the fitness test, which led to him being declared unfit was deliberately conducted, PCB clarified that "the team trainer conducts fitness tests of squad members before each global assignment and the tests before the Champions Trophy were conducted as a continuation of the policy".

Akmal on Saturday said in his tweets that "dummy" fitness tests were held in England before the Champions Trophy just to fail him and send him back home.

"Head Coach Mickey Arthur had placed Umar in his white ball format plans and gave him repeated chances for redemption. The PCB awaits his response to the show-cause issued to him yesterday and hopes that in the meantime, the batsman will refrain from making baseless allegations".

According to The Express Tribune, the middle-order batsman further claimed that Arthur verbally abused him in front of chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The 27-year-old cricketer said, "Mickey Arthur abused me and used inappropriate words for me".

"After I recovered, I went to the NCA to start working on my fitness and training but the coaching staff doesn't want to work with me at all", Akmal had told reporters. No player stepped in to ask him not to use such language for a Pakistan worldwide.

However, Arthur had brushed aside all allegations levelled against him by Akmal by saying, "He wanted to use Grant Flower's services for batting". I told him he must earn the right to use the support staff and should first play club cricket. "Once again Umar failed to attain the desired level of fitness and the team management was left with no option but to drop him from the squad".
