Ryan Reynolds and Samuel L. Jackson's The Hitman's Bodyguard won the weekend box office in its opening weekend! August has been relatively slow for movies, decelerating after big box office hits like Spider-Man: Homecoming and Wonder Woman took up a large chunk of the box office domination over the course of June and July.

The film brought in $21.6 million for its debut, which is considered a solid opening for the comedy.

Logan Lucky, which stars Channing Tatum, Adam Driver and Riley Keough, earned better reviews than Hitman's Bodyguard (with 93% on Rotten Tomatoes). An indie film which has generally been well-received, Logan Lucky is like the Southern version of Ocean's Eleven.

With leads like mega-stars Samuel L. Jackson, Ryan Reynolds and Salma Hayek, the film surpassed its closest competition, horror film Annabelle: Creation, which earned $15.5 million. "Dunkirk" falls two spots to #4 with $6.7 million (cume now $165.5 million).
