Not only is it home to more than 100,000 people, its U.S. Air Force base is believed to be home to the largest munitions stockpile in the world.

Yes, because nothing draws tourism more than the prospect of nuclear holocaust.

Caught in the middle of an escalating war of words between the USA and North Korea, the some 160,000 US residents on the island are concerned, but have heard this story before.

North Korean state media said Trump is "bereft of reason and only absolute force can work on him".

The Korean Central News Agency later reported that the Korean People's Army is drafting a plan for a preemptive missile strike against U.S. military facilities in Guam, including the Andersen Air Force Base where B-52 strategic bombers are deployed.

As before, Mr. Trump's statement did not make clear what would constitute an action that would require an American military operation - would the United States take action only in retaliation for an actual attack by North Korea, or would it strike to stop further development of nuclear weapons?

It said the United States was ready "along with its allies, to apply the full range of diplomatic, economic and military measures" to end any nuclear threat from the North.

North Korea parades ballistic missiles across Kim Il Sung Square in Pyongyang on April 15.

Tensions have escalated this week after the UN Security Council backed a punishing new round of sanctions against the rogue state following the test firing of two intercontinental ballistic missiles, which experts say could hit the USA mainland.

A threat from North Korea to strike the US territory of Guam has everybody from President Donald Trump to Americans who had to Google, "What is Guam?" talking about the small island.

During a news conference late Friday afternoon, Gov. Eddie Calvo said the threat level remained the same and that the island is "safe and sound". "You are safe", Trump told Calvo at the start of the three minute call.

"I spoke to Joint Region Marianas Commander Rear Admiral Shoshana Chatfield who confirmed this with me". The advances were detailed in an official Japanese assessment and later a Washington Post story that cited USA intelligence officials and a confidential Defense Intelligence Agency report. The United States has been threatened via a direct threat to Guam, which isn't just a host for Air Force and Navy bases.

"They have said that America will be defended".

Tourists walk through a shopping district in Tamuning, Guam - the nearest U.S. territory to North Korea. "Are we just like cannon fodder, are we just extras, are we just not part of the equation?"

Julian, 57, said: "We've been through all this before with that fat little son of a bitch".

"It´s not like there´s anything we can do anyway".
