Over her 17-year career, the pop star has snagged three Grammys, three Billboard Music Awards and six MTV Video Music Awards, and was named Billboard's Woman of the Year in 2013.

Pop star Pink has been chosen to receive the 2017 Vanguard Award, MTV's equivalent of a lifetime achievement honor for video music, the US cable and satellite television channel said on Tuesday.

Despacito's glaring omission from the list of nominations has now been clarified by MTV, who confirmed in a statement yesterday that the video 'wasn't submitted for consideration'.

Despite the song's runaway popularity, MTV has yet to air YouTube's most-watched video on its main channel, a situation that the track's label, Universal Music Latin Entertainment, would like to remedy.

In a release announcing that P!nk would be receiving the award, MTV said she was being honored "for her trailblazing impact on music, pop culture, fashion and philanthropy".

Despite breaking records, the video for "Despacito" has been shut out of the VMAs in 2017.

"UMLE is surprised and happy to learn that MTV plans to recognize "Despacito" in the VMA's "Song of Summer" category", the label said. However, Fonsi's song, the first Latin song to be No. 1 on Billboard's Hot 100 since party favourite Macarena by Los del Rio in 1996, is not among them.

There'll be no VMAs for Daddy Yankee and Luis Fonsi this year...

The VMAs will air live August 27 from the Forum in Inglewood, Calif. Kendrick Lamar is the top nominee with eight, while The Weeknd and VMA host Katy Perry each earned five nominations.
