Molly, a former world-class skier, is shown struggling as a waitress in Los Angeles before her sleazy boss (Jeremy Strong) selects her to run a secret weekly poker game at the Cobra Lounge with famous actors and Wall Street titans showing up.

STXfilms has timed the first trailer for Aaron's Sorkin's Molly's Game with the announcement today that the pic written and directed by the Oscar-winning writer behind The Social Network, Steve Jobs, A Few Good Men and TV's The West Wing among others will have its world premiere next month at the Toronto Film Festival. Sorkin wrote the script for Molly's Game himself (obviously) and the true story drama stars Jessica Chastain as Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game for more than a decade before being arrested in the middle of the night by gun-wielding Federal Bureau of Investigation agents. The stakes were high, and though Bloom catered for the likes of the Hollywood Elite, Russian mobsters and business moguls, she was eventually caught.

Bloom wrote a tell-all book about her exploits called Molly's Game, but in this trailer we clearly see Idris Elba's character holding a copy, which means Sorkin isn't doing a straight adaptation here-he's mining various aspects of Molly's life for one intense story that seems to chronicle the before, during, and after of Molly's poker days.

As is often the case with a female criminal, the media painted a certain picture of Bloom - and in Molly's Game, after her arrest by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, she sets out to prove she's not the woman that the press portray, with the help of her criminal defense attorney, played by Idris Elba. Molly's Game marks his first time stepping behind the camera as a director.
