North East area flooded due to heavy rain, 4 death reported Assam

Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered all support to Assam and also spoke to CM Sarbananda Sonowal on Sunday and Monday regarding the situation in the state.

"My thoughts are with all those affected by floods in parts of Bihar".

The flood situation in Assam worsened drastically and claimed ten lives while affecting almost 11 lakh people across 19 districts.

Barua said 450 NDRF personnel are being engaged in rescue and relief operations in 20 flood-hit locations in the State, SDRF personnel are looking after 30 such locations. "The state government is fully alert and we have sought help from the Army and IAF helicopters to rescue affected people and distribute relief among them", Nitish Kumar said at an official function here. Several ministers are visiting flood affected districts to take stock of the situation.

Following torrential rains in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram and Bhutan, the water level of Brahmaputra is flowing above danger level marks at Nematighat in Jorhat district, Tezpur in Sonitpur district, Guwahati in Kamrup (Metro) district, Goalpara and Dhubri.

On the other hand, heavy rainfall in Trai regions of Nepal and Seemanchal since on Sunday have deteriorated the situation in Kishanganj, Purnea, Araria and Katihar districts of Bihar. Over 80% of the Kaziranga National Park is also flooded, .

Nagaon Correspondent adds: Panic situation prevailed in Nagaon, Kaliabor, Jakhalabandha and other parts of the district due to breach of the Hatimura dyke last night.

Meanwhile, the Army and the Air Force officials today assured the State administration full cooperation in rescue operations within the shortest possible time.

While officials don't know the number of animals that may have died in the current floods, during the July floods more than 90 animals including 7 rhinos had died. Almost 320 personnel of the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in the state.
