Schubert, 21, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee, defeated 13-year-old Chia Yen Wu of Chinese Taipei, 2-up. It was their fourth time playing the 407-yard 18th hole at the San Diego Country Club. Now, she is a senior on the Texas Longhorns golf team.

Valenzuela, meanwhile, could become the first player from Switzerland to win a USGA championship.

Wu stayed alive with a 69-foot birdie putt on the 26 th hole and won on the 30th after Stephenson hooked her drive and had to lay up.

"Today, (my) first nine, I think my muscles and my body felt exhausted, so my iron distance changed", said Wu, of Taiwan, whose quarter-final on Friday went an 12 extra holes, a record for a U.S. Golf Association event. After neither golfer made a birdie through 10 holes, Schubert made three straight to grab a 2-up lead before Wu, the youngest semifinalist in championship history, answered with two straight birdies to square the match with three holes to play.
