TMZ reported on Friday that the Belorussian star, who split with former golf professional Billy McKeague in July, will skip the grand slam at Flushing Meadows later this month.

Victoria Azarenka is in danger of potentially missing the U.S. Open due to a custody battle involving her eight-month-old son. With the case set to wrap in October, Azarenka will skip the Open, which kicks off August 28 in NY, as she refuses to leave her child in the hands of her former beau.

Azarenka told the judge she would pay the father's expenses to travel to tournaments if she could take her son, but the judge said no. Azarenka also told the judge she has a valid custody order from Belarus, but the judge won't defer to the Belarus court.

Azarenka and McKeague broke up shortly after Wimbledon and she has since withdrawn from the Bank of the West Classic in California due to a viral illness, the Telegraph reports.

Azarenka is now ranked just 203rd in the world due to the amount of time she missed during her pregnancy.

Former world number one Victoria Azarenka has pulled out of the Cincinnati Open next week because of "a family matter".
