Joshi replaces filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani who was appointed as CBFC Chairman in 2015. Bearing responsibility and doing my best has been my endeavour.

I will try to fulfill my responsibilities as per the best of my abilities with my experience and guidance.

Pahlaj Nihalani got sacked as the Chairperson of the Central Board Of Film Certification, on Friday and now, ace lyricist and adman, Prasoon Joshi has been appointed as the new CBFC chief. I am not yet familiar with the nitty-gritties.

The government has also reconstituted the existing board with new members such as Vidya Balan, Vivek Agnihotri, Gautami Tadimalla, Narendra Kohli, Naresh Chandra Lal, Neil Herbert Nongkynrih, Waman Kendre, T S Nagabharana, Ramesh Patange, Vani Tripati Tikoo, Jeevitha Rajasekhar and Mihir Bhuta.

"All the people who have joined will make a difference. I think there is some sort of understanding that has to be brought in", Joshi said.

"I had given my consent but then all this has happened so fast".

The feeling of optimism was reflected by filmmaker Abhishek Kapoor who said that the industry had high expectations from him. Talking to a popular portal, he said that he's happy to "make way" for somebody and that he hopes the new chief carries on with the values he has imbibed in the industry while censoring films. I am happy to make way for someone else.

I will always try to take opinion of people, who have right and positive thinking because this is very new to me, 'he said. It's been a highly satisfying tenure at the CBFC for me. I got rid of all the middlemen and touts who made money in the censor certification process. "I only hope he doesn't reverse the work that I started at the CBFC." said Nihalani. I respect the film industry a lot. "It is too early for me to answer a lot of questions".

Joshi is known for his award winning ad campaigns and also as an acclaimed scriptwriter and lyricist.

The appointment of Prasoon Joshi had led to a feeling of optimism among the film trade, given his credentials of being a creative person - he has come up with lovely lyrics for films like "Black", "Taare Zameen Par", "Bhaag Milkha Bhaag", "Rang De Basanti" and "Delhi-6", and has won a National award for his lyrics for a song in "Taare Zameen Par".
