Mourinho ready for second-year success

United drew more games at home than they won and suffered a drastic shortage of goals. If we manage that, we'll try to finish in the top two.

The Red Devils are looking to improve their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League this season.

Rather than being a platform to build on to challenge for a first title since 1961, Tottenham's ownership appears more focused on building its new stadium.

"We [Lukaku and Pogba] talked about it last season, wondering if one day we would play together and it's happened this season so I'm very happy".

The team can still appear a little boring in attack - especially on the wings. their preferred wingers are Anthony Martial., Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, and Henrikh Mkhitaryan - all of whom are much more comfortable cutting in rather than holding the width.

With Sergio Aguero and Brazilian Gabriel Jesus the options for central striker and the likes of David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling, Leroy Sane and new arrival Bernardo Silva to choose from as attacking midfielders, City have little choice but to attack.

As former United player Brian McClair said: "In some games, Paul Pogba has been in the wrong place and it has stifled his abilities which United bought him for". He's wanted four players, but got only three. The longer it goes on, the more disruptive it can be with both sides not wanting to back down. But additionally there is an expectation that Lukaku will need his fellow attackers to support him, with only three other players hitting double-figure goals last season.

"But he's still a very good player to sit in front of the back four, do the simple things, pass the ball - he's good at what he does". Matic will fit and be mobile.

The Gunners offered little protection to goalkeeper Petr Cech past year, conceding 44 goals, which was the worst record of the big six.

Manchester United have spent big this summer, lavishing £140million on Romelu Lukaku, Nemanja Matic and Victor Lindelof.

The City line-up for their 1-0 win was all-British but the eleven who will take the field on Saturday will be drawn from around the world - with even more worldwide talent having been recruited during the close-season.

Jose Mourinho has been unable to get a deal for Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic despite reports the Croatia worldwide wants to move to Old Trafford.

However, Mourinho has lost a number of key players to long-term injury, including defenders Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, and wing-back Ashley Young.

And yet Mourinho hinted at a formula he thinks could make the difference for United.

Crerand believes so and if United start well against West Ham United on Sunday and continue to prosper in a fixture list that doesn't throw up the best teams early on, confidence will soar.
