A White House statement said Trump and President Emmanuel Macron had discussed "the increasingly risky situation associated with North Korea's destabilising and escalatory behaviour".

The statement said that the United States and allies were ready to apply the full range of diplomatic, economic, and military measures to end any threat. During the call, both said they would boost efforts to enforce new sanctions and denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.

Comments come after phone call with Donald Trump in which both leaders agreed on need to confront 'increasingly risky situation'. North Korea dominated the conversation between the two leaders, according to a readout of the call.

In recent days، Trump and the North Korean regime have engaged in heated rhetoric about the Asian nation's nuclear weapons program.

The U.S. House of Representatives should return from its summer recess to discuss legislation banning a pre-emptive nuclear strike on North Korea without congressional authorization, a Democratic lawmaker said Friday.

"Trump looks forward to seeing Xi in China later this year, a meeting that will be a very historic event".

French President Emmanuel Macron made a plea to de-escalate tensions with North Korea and called on the worldwide community to proceed toward new measures aimed at an irreversible dismantling of the country's nuclear program.

One of President Trump's most famous critics came to his defense this week after a vow of "fire and fury" for North Korea: former Vice President Al Gore.
