Jose Mourinho has confirmed Manchester United are in talks with Zlatan Ibrahimovic about signing for the second part of the season.

"He wants more at the highest level".

The Red Devils coach has confirmed United are in talks with Ibrahimovic about signing a new deal once he is fully fit.

When asked whether the full-back position was an area he was happy with or looking to strengthen, Mourinho said: "You know 25 per cent means one of four".

The 35-year-old was released at the end of the season, but a new contract is being discussed.

'It was very clear by showing what he did previous year was not enough for him.

Ibra could play again for United in season 17/18. "It's not something urgent, it's not something we're desperate to have done or not done".

United kick off their Premier League campaign at home to West Ham on Sunday, having won six of their seven pre-season friendlies.

United have moved to replace the Swede in this summer's transfer window - bringing in Romelu Lukaku from Everton, but the possibility of the striker linking up with the club again seems a formality given Mourinho's latest comments. He thinks he can do more.

Defeat by Real Madrid in Tuesday's Uefa Super Cup match in Skopje was a setback, but Mourinho says his team are ready for the new season.

"But we have lost important players to injury too, such as Marcos Rojo, Ashley Young, Luke Shaw, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic".
