Join the Solar Eclipse Viewing Party At Lake Mead

In a tweet Thursday, library officials said residents can visit numerous branches scattered throughout the city to snag a pair of the so-called "eclipse glasses" that will allow them to safely stare toward the sky as the moon passes across the sun. The maximum eclipse will occur at 2:42 p.m.in our area when about 80-percent of the sun will be covered.

The National Park Service is encouraging visitors to prepare to have a safe viewing opportunity during the eclipse.

Sit at the deck at Riverbend Park or bring a lawn chair and sit in the grassy area to enjoy a spectacular view of the Potomac and the eclipse.
