West Ham will go in search of their first win at Old Trafford since May 2007, when a Carlos Tevez strike gave Alan Curbishley's side victory and preserved their Premier League status.

Paul Pogba admits that Manchester United need to be "winning everything" if they are to be considered "big" again.

"It took a bit of an adjustment for Pep Guardiola, but City are my favourites".

City have strengthened their squad significantly during this transfer window, securing deals for Kyle Walker, Benjamin Mendy, Ederson, Bernardo Silva and Danilo to add to their existing array of stars.

There is no doubt that Mourinho has built a strong, powerful looking side with signings such as Romelu Lukaku and Nemanja Matic this summer.

Manchester United are in talks to re-sign striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the second half of the season, says manager Jose Mourinho. "Playing against these kinds of teams is always good to improve in pre-season, too".

With their rigid pay structure, Tottenham lacks the will to break their budget to offer big salaries or spend anything yet on reinforcing a squad that delivered Tottenham's highest league finish in more than 50 years.

"We did it earlier and we are lucky because it would be more expensive now", said the Catalan. But he insists, despite that, the title is a more realistic target.

Even so, Conte has done his best to get billionaire Blues owner Roman Abramovich to throw his financial muscle behind Chelsea's title defence.

Both Guardiola and Mourinho could argue that their first seasons were transitional campaigns.

"We are in a position to do quality work better than we did in the first season, so I am convinced that our second season, in terms of the quality of our team, is going to be better".

Former Everton midfielder Kilbane believes Manchester United still need to bring in a couple of signings to add more pace to Mourinho's team ahead of their return to the Champions League.

"A lot of the trouble was created by my own situation".

In that category there was no other Chelsea player in the top 15 spots for points earned by their goals, with Eden Hazard's 16, by comparison, responsible for only seven points. "The trend has always to come from the team".

"Some will have the luck to play Tuesday or Wednesday, then Saturday or Sunday, but in the end it is the same number of matches". Yet, with Manchester United and Chelsea far from ideal either and the current City squad possessing new realms of depth, they should saunter to the title.

Liverpool, trying to fend off Barcelona's interest in £100 million-rated forward Philippe Coutinho, are at Watford.

Arsene Wenger's men allowed their opponents to take 432 shots against them last season, which was sixth best in the league and well below City, who topped that category by only allowing 301.

The merits of that cautious approach should become clear throughout a fascinating season that serves as a referendum on the go for broke era.
