The series will apparently have four films in all.

The sequel to Dhanush's 2014 blockbuster Velai Illa Pattathari or VIP 2 which hit the screens on Friday has had a decent opening. The film marks the return of the Bollywood actress Kajol almost after two decades.

Amid high expectations, the film has opened to mixed reviews for having a stereotypical storyline.Despite mixed reviews, the second installment in the VIP franchise has gone on to rake in the moolah.

The early reports emerging from the trade indicate that it has earned over Rs 4.5 crore, thereby beating the record of the actor's previous film Kodi that had collected over Rs 3.5 crore on the first day. We have created a fun social experience for "VIP 2' where people can share stickers, try filters and personify their favourite characters", a Hike spokesperson said in a statement. If everything goes as per plans, the team is likely to shoot next year (2018) end, and release it in 2019.

"VIP 2", directed by Soundarya Rajinikanth, also stars Amala Paul, Saranya Ponvannan and Samuthirakani.

"I'm confident Kajol will be there in VIP 3, but I'm not sure if she will be there in VIP 4", said Dhanush. "This franchise, the VIP world has the potential to go on and on and on".
