CHARLOTTESVILLE | Driver in deadly attack from OH, officials say

The auto is registered to 20-year-old James Alex Fields of OH, according to vehicle registration records reviewed by The Washington Post.

A 20-year-old OH man was arrested and faces possible charges of second-degree murder in connection with driving a auto that rammed a crowd in Charlottesville that killed one woman an injured 19 others, according to news reports.

He's in his 20s, and he is from Maumee Ohio. He also is reported to have served in in the U.S. military. From August 18th to December 11th, 2015, James was listed as an Active Duty Service Member in the United States Army.

He is in custody at Charlottesville County Regional Jail. He appears to have surrendered to police, according to reports. Lorenz reports that authorities believe that the suspect acted out of fear as protesters swarmed the vehicle, some allegedly acting violent.
