Derek Wolfe was carted off of the field during Saturday's practice.

"Great news", cornerback Aqib Talib said. ESPN's Josina Anderson reports it is "just an ankle sprain".

Wolfe was a key player on the Broncos' Super Bowl 50 team as he was a force against the run and as an inside pass rusher.

Broncos coach Vance Joseph said following the team's practice, the preliminary exam by the medical staff showed "the first look, it wasn't serious". "We're kind of assuming it's not that bad". "Hopefully, it's not serious and it's just a sprain". In another tweet he wrote, "Appreciate the love".

The team and fans can breathe a sigh of relief as Wolfe has tweeted that he "Dodged a bullet" along with the hashtag #blameitonthecleats. It is possible he could move back inside and the Broncos could add an outside linebacker.

"Good", Harris said when told Wolfe's injury didn't seem serious. That was our problem past year. So, we need Derek Wolfe. He's our leader up front. Trainers helped Wolfe onto a cart, and he was taken to the locker room. "I hope he's all right".

The Broncos are already strapped for defensive line depth after losing reserve Billy Winn to a torn ACL on Thursday night in their preseason opener against the Chicago Bears. He was replaced on the roster by rookie defensive lineman Nelson Adams of Mississippi State.

Rookie defensive end DeMarcus Walker shifted to outside linebacker earlier in camp following injuries to Shane Ray (wrist) and Shaquil Barrett (hip). None will be back until September.

In each of the past two seasons, Wolfe has notched 5.5 sacks.
