Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester City

The Seagulls couldn't have been handed a tougher start to life in the top flight with the visit of Pep Guardiola's side to the Amex.

Brighton boss Chris Hughton said: "For 70 minutes we played the game that we had to play".

Just 23 minutes into his second Brighton debut, Izzy Brown on loan from Chelsea was replaced by Jamie Murphy. If the club decides [I am] not able, we are going to take a solution. A late victor from the Spanish club, however, propelled Brighton to a defeat in their showpiece friendly.

"Last season we did run a lot and we did many good things but we weren't good in the boxes". Striker Christian Benteke scored 17 goals last campaign that proved crucial in Palace's eventual survival, and will want to produce a similar goal haul this season.

"It is disappointing but that is the quality Manchester City have got and we know that", he told BBC Sport.

"For us there are some great examples of teams that have gone up and stayed up". Their pre-season exploits have been quite impressive as well, thus leading to increased expectations.

Once Gabriel Jesus arrived at the club in January this year his form was so good that question marks over Aguero's future at the Etihad Stadium began to emerge.

"Congratulations to the team for the first victory".

The Cityzens have spent extreme amounts of money during the current transfer window as they look to push on for the Premier League title.

A high scoring game is likely to ensue as these two teams play each other. The Premier League is much deeper, standard wise, than the Bundesliga and La Liga versions, where his Bayern Munich and Barcelona teams won League titles with consummate, in England, teams floating around mid and low reaches of the table have a nasty ability to bite and take points off the "big boys" when least expected - and that hurt City previous year, dropping points at Middlesbrough, Southampton, Leicester amongst others. City remain inextricably linked with the biggest names still floating around Europe.... As far as the attack is concerned, that was never a problem area for Guardiola.

Arsenal have already benefitted from the linesman failing to spot Mesut Ozil's handball in the build up to Aaron Ramsey's equaliser against Leicester City last night, while Liverpool had every reason to feel aggrieved for an offside call that went against them as they dropped points vs. Watford earlier in the day.

But the former Benfica player is adamant he remains "calm and ready to help my team" despite his new price-tag.

That came at a time when City were continuing to enjoy around 80 per cent of the possession, and yours truly was nearly certainly not the only one wondering how they will fare against Europe's elite if it takes them this long to break down little Brighton.
