Money no object for Man City, but Guardiola must deliver

In the last six or seven years Manchester City didn't buy full backs.

The report added Barcelona "expect to keep hold" of the Spaniard, and it would indeed be a huge surprise were the Catalan giants to let one of their key players leave the Camp Nou.

Pep Guardiola will resist a tactical shift at Manchester City this season, having backed his raft of big-money singings to fit last season's often stuttering gameplan.

United were beaten 2-1 by Champions League holders Real Madrid in the match in Skopje on Tuesday, much to the dismay of United fan Adedeji Odumboni, who had made the 16-hour trip from Bristol, UK, with his older brother, Adedire, and father, Ibrahim.

City have spent more than £200million on a squad revamp following last season's underwhelming campaign.

"Next season, for the next three or four years", the 46-year-old stated. "Manchester City will sign one, two, maybe three players but we are not going to do what happened this season." .

The FanSided soccer staff make their picks ahead of the first weekend of the Premier League season, which kicks off Friday.

Mourinho's optimism is based on three beliefs; he feels he has a more settled squad than when he arrived, that they have had a better pre-season than 12 months ago and that their rivals at the top of the division will have greater distractions in European competition this time.

Mourinho added: "We got a central defender that can play in many other positions, which is important".

Guardiola again pointed to a defensive example in his examination of inflated fees in the current climate, suggesting a younger Dani Alves would command a fee similar to that which City paid for Walker and Mendy.

But the solution is not changing players every season.

"Between the players we have lost and the players we have got, I think we are in a similar situation but with more experience of working together and a much better pre-season".

'I love football and I have always loved football, ' he told the club's website.

There have been five major new signings in Ederson, Benjamin Mendy, Kyle Walker, Bernardo Silva and Danilo, and further additions have not been ruled out.

"We are here to win the games".

"I have a lot of respect for the players I had", he explained. We have to deal with that and handle that.

"For example, hopefully next season I will be here and we are not going to spend how we spent this season".
