Heat Become First Team With Mobile-Only Entry

The Miami Heat are set to change the way their fans can enter the America Airlines Arena this coming season to watch their home games.

"Adopting mobile only entry is all about improving the fan experience at the AmericanAirlines Arena", the team's website says. This could also be a hit for those who like to preserve the tickets from games that they attend, but there are solid reasons behind the move to mobile tickets.

The team announced earlier this week that it was becoming the first National Basketball Association team with mobile-only ticketing-meaning it won't give out paper tickets.

In a statement, the Heat said they chose to adopt the system after finding that roughly one in three fans entered with a mobile ticket last season.

Other teams, like the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Cleveland Cavaliers, have mobile-only ticketing, but they permit fans to use a driver's license and credit card to get in. The ticket on the phone is still transferable.

Critics of the shift to mobile-only cite lack of ease with transferability and wanting to have a physical keepsake from the game. While only a small percentage of their supporters may have concerns about it, the team is still expected to make some exemptions and will make sure everything is set before the start of next season.
