Roberto Bautista bt Gael Monfils 4-6, 7-6 (5), 7-6 (2); Adrian Mannarino bt Hyeon Chung 6-3, 6-3; Alexander Zverev bt Nick Kyrgios 6-4, 6-3; Kevin Anderson bt Sam Querrey 6-4, 6-1.

Shapovalov has taken major strides this week to reach his goal of cracking the world's top 100 with wins over Rogerio Dutra Silva and 2009 U.S. Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro.

Elsewhere on Thursday, Roger Federer maintained his career-long winning streak over David Ferrer to advance to the last eight after a three-set battle with the veteran Spaniard.

Haase will face the victor between second-seeded Roger Federer and Roberto Bautista Agut in the semifinals on Saturday.

Federer, 36, had never lost in 16 previous meetings with the 35-year-old Ferrer, whom he first defeated 14 years ago at the Vienna Indoor tournament.

Unseeded Argentine Diego Schwartzman posted a unusual win over American Jared Donaldson 0-6, 7-5, 7-5 to advance to a quarterfinal meeting with Robin Haase, the 52nd-ranked Dutchman who upset seventh-seeded Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria 7-6 (3), 4-6, 6-1.

He is 1-0 against Haase after a straight-sets win in Davis Cup play in 2012. The win over Donaldson put him in a quarterfinal for the sixth time this year.

While the 18-year-old Richmond Hill, Ont., native's profile - not to mention his world ranking of 143 - is sure to climb thanks to his success in Montreal, he's still a relatively new face on the ATP Tour.
