Kansas City has lost four in a row and nine of 11 to surrender second place in the American League Central to Minnesota while remaining four games behind division-leading Cleveland. James Shields will start game two and is 2-4 with a 6.03 ERA and 50 strikeouts this season. He struck out six, walked three, and threw 68 of his 102 pitches for strikes in a no-decision.

Lopez, who made 11 appearances (six starts) as a rookie with Washington a year ago, was acquired in the deal that sent Adam Eaton to the Nationals. Duffy fell to 7-8 after allowing five runs and seven hits in 6 1/3 innings, striking out eight and walking zero. Nicky Delmonico will be in left field while Leury Garcia mans right and Avisail Garcia grabs a seat on the White Sox' bench. He yielded two runs in 13 2/3 innings at Baltimore and Detroit in his previous two turns and lost to Texas on July 15 despite giving up one run over 8 1/3 frames. He added a solo shot in the sixth inning, his 34th of the season. Alcides Escoabr went 2 for 4 with a double, while Melky Cabrera added a two-bagger of his own as Cheslor Cuthbert and Alex Gordon each chipped in base hits of their own in the loss.

NOTES: Moutakas delivered his third multi-home run game of the season and seventh of his career.

The Chicago White Sox will look to stay hot after winning their fourth straight game, following up their sweep of the Astros with their series opening win on Friday.
