Several European newspapers have indicated that Guangzhou have accepted Barca's offer, so Paulinho will head to Camp Nou for a reported fee close to €40 million.

The former Tottenham midfielder joins the Catalans from Chinese Super League club Guangzhou Evergrande, where he's been playing since 2015, according to the Daily Mail.

Sources from FC Barcelona have indicated the deal is not completed yet, but that should change during the course of the weekend.

Paulinho played 67 times for Spurs during a two season spell, scoring 11 times for the Lilywhites, but he has eventually sold to China for around £10m.

Paulinho has been linked to a move to Barcelona throughout the summer but Evergrande chairman Xu Jiayin had previously stated he would not be allowed to leave before the end of the season due to the cost associated in replacing him.

He told Mundo Deportivo: 'It is a unique opportunity for me to be able to play for Barcelona, the best team in the world and surrounded by the best players.

"I have to talk to my president, since I got the proposal I have not stopped thinking about it and I am waiting for everything to be resolved this week".

Barca have so far been unsuccessful in their attempts to land a more natural replacement for Neymar with huge bids for Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele being rejected by Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund respectively.
