And now he has given a fresh warning about AI's risks, suggesting the developing technology is more of a risk to the world than North Korea, after rising diplomatic tension between the U.S. and North Korea.

But he is anxious about the long-range effects of more powerful computers.

"If you're not concerned about AI safety, you should be. Vastly more risk than North Korea", Musk tweeted on Friday night.

While Musk's comments seem somewhat bombastic, they do shed light on the growing influence of artificial intelligence on humanity.

Musk also warned that artificial intelligence should be regulated the same way anything that could pose a danger to the public is.

Musk, who recently became single after separating from girlfriend and actress Amber Heard, said in July AI - technology that includes robots and smart computers - is the "scariest problem" facing human civilization.

This week, the reclusive nation said it is drawing up plans to fire missiles near Guam, a US territory in the Pacific Ocean.
