BJP president Amit Shah has invited Bihar Chief Minister and JD (U) president Nitish Kumar to join the ruling NDA, following the latter's alliance with the saffron party in the state to form a new government.

Nitish Kumar met Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi yesterday in the national capital. "When we are together in government in Bihar it is only natural that our party joins the Union government", the party leader told the news agency on Friday.

The JD (U) on Friday suspended its rebel MP Ali Anwar Ansari for taking part in a meeting of opposition parties convened by Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

Earlier in July, the BJP and the Janata Dal (United) formed fresh alliance after Nitish Kumar walked out of the grand alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal of Lalu Prasad Yadav and the Congress.

Kumar, who was in Delhi to attend the swearing in ceremony of Venkaiah Naidu as the Vice-President of India, said the decision to form a coalition government with the BJP was taken unanimously by the party ranks.

With the cracks within the party now coming to the fore, some decision is likely to be taken soon, as the JD-U has a national executive meeting scheduled in Patna on August 19.
