After qualified success in his maiden campaign as Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho will hope to dust off his tried and tested second-season formula in 2017-18.

Manchester United were however allowed to sign Willian's former teammate Nemanja Matic who is also 29 years of age and could be argued was a more crucial part of Antonio Conte's title winning side last summer in a move that Conte has distanced himself from suggesting the deal was sanctioned without his consent.

He looked to join Mourinho in Manchester after holding talks with the Red Devils but nothing came out of it.

But Mourinho was nevertheless impressed with his former Chelsea charge: "I think he played really well, I think in the moment they were moving the ball well of course was hard for us in the midfield". I prefer the Mourinho in the dressing room, he's friendlier.

Jose Mourinho has been on a long search for a winger.

"He likes me a lot and I like him a lot as a coach and as a person", Willian told Goal. He has put his trust in me and in my work, and I was very grateful to him.

"I am very happy with Chelsea, but we don't know the future".

'There are two different people with Mourinho. Everyone has their way of working. "They have a great coach and great players, so we have to congratulate the team for the work they've done and the history we're making".

"I think we played everything so we don't lose this game", the Serbian said after a performance that thoroughly impressed Mourinho.

Having won the league in his second season in his last five jobs - Porto, Chelsea (twice), Inter Milan and Real Madrid - he will be expected to mount a strong title challenge at the very least.

"Conte likes to work the tactical and the physical part".

The Red Devils will be looking to make a significant improvement in their Premier League form this term after they stuttered to a disappointing sixth-placed finish last term. Each one has his merits.
