Troopers were conducting a traffic stop on Interstate 95 just before 1 p.m. and attempted to stop a black Infiniti.

The driver fled and got off the highway onto South Avene and the trooper saw the Infiniti crash into a blue vehicle at the intersection of Railroad Avenue and Iranistan Avenue. Guzman-Rivera then assaulted a Police K9 before being apprehended. The driver of the Toyota, who has not yet been identified, was fatally injured.

Police said after Guzman-Rivera vehicle struck the Toyota, he continued on and struck two pedestrians, one possibly on a bicycle. The pedestrian sustained non-life threatening injuries.

Santiago said the woman killed was a good friend and neighbor of hers for several years.

Guzman-Rivera fled on foot from there. But a short time later, he was found in a residence nearby by police dogs, police said.

The Connecticut State Police accident reconstruction team is assisting Bridgeport police in the crash investigation. They say he was also found to be in possession of heroin, crack cocaine, and powder cocaine.

He's being held on a $500,000 bond and is set to appear in court today.
