"I heard some crying and wining and crying, and I kept walking until I got closer to the noise, and then I look at the ground and there was a baby down there", Albert Peterson, the man who found the baby, told KHOU in Houston.

The mother was found around the corner from where she left the baby. "You see her impressions on the ground". She was covered from head to toe and all in her ears. She wasn't too hard to track down. "I was like, 'Call 911!'"

The newborn was taken to a local hospital in Texas. Police in Harris County in Spring found the child who was less than an hour-old, covered in ants with the umbilical cord still attached.

The baby was taken to the hospital for treatment and is said to be in good condition.

Initially, the occupants of the apartment at the end of the blood trail reportedly refused to answer the knocks at the door by the deputies. Investigators tracked down a woman who is believed to be the mother of the baby girl.

Investigators concluded that the child was born inside the apartment and then taken outside and dumped in the bushes.

Both the mother and another person were taken into custody.

"Without this neighbor, we could be looking at. a whole different scene", said Deputy Thomas Gilliland. "It's a miracle the child was found".

Child Protective Services is helping in the investigation. The unidentified hero lifted the baby from the flower bed, cleaned her off as best he could, and held her until Harris County Sheriff's Deputies could arrive.

"It's like they just left the baby out there like it was trash", Baldwin told reporters from KTRK ABC13. She was with a man, but they aren't sure of her connection to him at this time.

"No one has to abandon a child again", deputies said.
