The 15-year-old revealed on the show back in April that she suffers from scoliosis and was due to have surgery which would leave her unable to dance again - but when it emerged that a different type of operation was available in the USA, the music mogul stepped in.

Carlile has now had two successful operations in the United States.

Britain's Got Talent finalist Julia Carlile can continue her dancing dream - thanks to the generosity of show judge Simon Cowell.

A former Britain's Got Talent hopeful has thanked Simon Cowell after he paid for a life-changing operation.

'Thankyou @SimonCowell @CowellOnline #strong #recovery #fighter, ' she added.

Earlier in August she also shared a picture of her in a dance pose on Instagram, writing: '9 days post op and i'm dancing already, i am finally feeling recovered, it was a long bumpy road but i did it Second op tomorrow (sic)'.

During MerseyGirls' original audition, the talented teenager explained to the judges: "I have to have surgery soon, and after surgery I won't be able to dance, so this is my last chance because I've always wanted to do it".

Since the dance group lost in June's final to pianist Tokio Myers, Cowell has kept a promise he made Carlile in the semi-final that he would pay for her operation.

"I've got to tell you something girls", he said.

But in an effort to save Carlile's dance career, her friends were determined to raise the money for alternative treatment - and in the final Cowell stepped forward to offer financial help, saying: "Whatever happens, we'll make sure you're all right".
