Jermaine Goupall was found with stab injuries on Georgia Road near the junction with Green Lane on Tuesday night at about 11pm.

The victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene in Thornton Heath, is the second teenager to be fatally knifed on the capital's streets in just 24 hours. A 19-year-old boy was also stabbed to death in Peckham hours earlier.

Anyone with information that may assist the investigation should call the Homicide and Major Crime Command incident room on 020 8721 4868 on via 101.

"At this early stage we retain an open mind as to motive and even if a piece of information seems insignificant, it may provide a vital piece of the puzzle for our investigation".

Officers believe they know the victim's identity but are awaiting formal identification.

Five people were arrested on suspicion of murder near the scene of the crime. This is happening all too frequently both in Croydon and across London - enough is enough. Locals have paid tribute to the boy by setting flowers by the crime scene.

In April, Assistant Commissioner for the Metropolitan Police Martin Hewitt said: "We are concerned about the rise of gun crime and rise of knife crime offences committed by young people and the changing nature of the offenders".
