The Red Sox have activated Dustin Pedroia (knee) from the 10-day disabled list and placed right-handed reliever Blaine Boyer on the DL with a neck strain.

"I wouldn't say it's unlikely he would play at second base tomorrow", said manager John Farrell, "but we'll see how he comes out of tonight".

The infielder underwent surgery in the offseason to fix the meniscus in his left knee.

Pedroia, who is hitting.307 with six home runs and 54 RBIs, missed eight games while on the disabled list.

In the midst of his 12th season, Pedroia has spent his entire career with the Red Sox.

No decision has been made on when he will return to second base. Boston is 7-1 over its last eight without the starting second baseman, and the offense hasn't missed a beat: Over that stretch, the Red Sox plated an average of 6.5 runs per game, almost two runs more than their 4.7 average.
