Mob Lynches Kidnap Suspects In Lagos

Meawhiled the Ebonyi State police yesterday paraded a notorious kidnapper, Ogonna Alikoa, and 11 other suspects who were allegedly involved in the abduction and killing of Mrs. Catherine Okorie Chukwu, 60.

According to reports, the ritualists den popularly known as Ajele, is an underground manhole, which stretched from one end of the road at Obadeyi Bus Stop to an adjoining street.

"It took several hours to dig into the den where the suspects had hidden their victims; about two persons were rescued and taken to the hospital, as they appeared unconscious".

The sweepers reportedly raised the alarm on sighting the woman being dragged into the underground den.

It was gathered that the crowd later succeeded and set ablaze one of the suspects, but surprisingly to them, as fire was burning all over him, he appeared unhurt.

The officials are being shown the various exits around the tunnel by some of the youth and residents of the area.

Eyewitnesses claimed that a decomposing corpse was also found in one of the rooms, from where an offensive stench was emanating.

The security operatives also arrested the alleged mastermind and recovered the aforementioned items from the said den.

The man was allegedly caught while trying to run away from a house suspected to be use for detaining their victims when he was caught and subsequently set Ablaze.

The first suspect who was burnt by the mob is yet to be evacuated.

Unfortunately, before they entered the canal, the woman who cried for help had been killed, but her little baby was found.

"All this started at about 9:00 o'clock when information came o0ut to say that a female voice was heard shouting "help, help" under the canal here by some of the street sweepers and in the process, some people around moved in to help and the divisional police officer around this area was contacted who immediately got to the place".

"We were able to rescue the woman, who was crying for help". We only searched two rooms remaining two. Security agents prevented the third person from being set on fire.

Narrating the events that led to the discovery, a witness, Adesola John, said the alleged ritualist was found when passersby traced the cries of the woman allegedly kidnapped by the suspect.

The image maker in charge of the state police command, Olarinde Famous Cole, confirmed "an incident" around the area and added that "the Lagos State police command is on ground at the scene of the discovery".

"The Commissioner of Police is sending Scene of Crime experts and Police dogs here".

"So far, two people have been lynched and three arrested". We are still making effort to clear the manhole to see if people are still there.

It was gathered that none of the suspects was killed, as soldier on routine patrol of the area rescued them from the hands of the angry mobs.
