A baby found dead in a locked closet at a Fort Worth home has been identified as John Norris of Weatherford, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner's office website on Tuesday.

Officers found the child inside a home in the 600 block of Woodpecker Lane after receiving a report of an unconscious person.

In a Tuesday news conference, Fort Worth police said the baby died from suffocation due to a strap mechanism on the auto seat. She placed the boy and his vehicle seat in a bedroom closet where it would be quiet enough for him to take a nap. "So, the baby unfortunately began to slide down, and the weight of himself against that beam is possibly what it is that caused him to suffocate", Perez said. They found the baby boy, who had been in the closet for several hours before he was discovered.

Child Care Licensing has joined the investigation since it appears the child was being babysat, officials said.
