The 94-year-old mom was found naked and her 70-year-old dressed only in her underwear, sources told NBC New York.

The two women, 94 and 70, were discovered at about 2:25 p.m. when workers responded to reports of a smell coming from inside the East 16th Street apartment, according to police.

A foul odor led authorities to discover two women dead inside a Manhattan apartment, law enforcement sources familiar with the probe tell News 4 NY. However, there were no signs of trauma or forced entry into the apartment, police said. They are believed to have been dead for at least two weeks.

Both women had suffered from health problems, police said, although the cause of death will be determined today by a medical examiner.

The names of the deceased have not yet been released.

It's unclear what the they died from or if the pair lived together.

Several neighbors complained about living conditions in the under-renovation, 19-story building, including a broken air conditioning system.

City Housing and Preservation Development records show a dozen complaints since May, including several stating the heat was turned on earlier in the summer.
