A teenager has been stabbed to death in south London, the second young person to have been killed that way in the capital in 24 hours.

Police were called at around 11pm on Tuesday, August 8, to a male stabbed in Georgia Road near the junction with Green Lane, Thornton Heath.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene shortly before midnight.

Officers believe they know the victim's identity but are awaiting formal identification. A postmortem is to be arranged.

This latest killing is thought to be at least the 13th fatal stabbing of a teenager in London this year. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 2.50am.

Six people were arrested on suspicion of murder, although three have been released with no further action taken against them, while two were released pending a police investigation.

Post-mortem examinations are due to be held for both teenagers.

Detectives from the Met's homicide and major crime command are investigating both murders.

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, a 19-year-old was stabbed to death on the Old Kent Road in Southwark. There was another incident here a few weeks ago so the police came around then too.
