Premier League to take precedence over Europa League, says Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger wants the Arsenal fanbase to stand "united and together" going into the new Premier League season following their Community Shield win over Chelsea.

Arsenal begin the new league campaign against Leicester City on Friday, live on Sky Sports, and Wenger insists the club must not repeat their slow starts to previous seasons.

"If a team is in April in a position where they have more chance to win the Europa League they can let some games go in the championship, and not completely focus on that, on the regularity of the competition".

Last season saw the Gunners drop out of the top four for the first time under the 67-year-old's 21-year reign in charge, as they finished fifth.

'For me he is one of the best players in the Premier League and in world football.

'What I do think is they need to strengthen as they're in the Champions League this season and you need a really strong squad. In the Europa League if we can afford sometimes to rest some players we will do it.

Arsenal beat English champions Chelsea in May's FA Cup final and on Sunday, the London rivals will face each other again in the traditional season-opener, the Community Shield.

Antonio Conte secured the signing of Spain worldwide Morata last month, having missed out on Romelu Lukaku who opted to join Manchester United earlier in the summer.

"Last year, Chelsea did not play in the European Cup and, certainly, they were a bit more consistent in the Premier League", Wenger added. When he is fit and playing he makes Chelsea the team they are'. So when he actually has something positive to say about Arsenal, not only is it a surprise but I think it is worth looking at, and his recent comments reported by Metro about Alexandre Lacazette are certainly that.
