4K HDR Apple TV incoming? HomePod code hints at updated model

References to a 4K HDR Apple TV have reportedly been found in firmware for the upcoming HomePod.

Developer Guilherme Rambo spotted multiple 4K HDR references in the firmware including a kCoreThemeDynamicDisplayMode4kHDR reference.

Roku, for instance, has thrown its weight behind the most well-known version, HDR10, but Apple looks to be supporting Dolby's more capable alternative, as well as Hybrid Log-Gamma.

The discovery corroborates another earlier "leak" from Apple which saw iTunes Movies being marked as 4K HDR in the purchase history of some users.

The references confirm that the next-generation Apple TV will not only include support for ultra-high-definition 4K content, but also three popular HDR modes for better contrast and colours.

Reports of the new range of Apple TV have surfaced time and again over the past few months, starting February this year.

Hopefully, that will be rectified soon, if the HomePod code is anything to go by.
