Friday's presidential election - the third ever multiparty presidential poll in Rwanda - handed incumbent President Kagame another mandate at the helm.

"The people of Rwanda under the leadership of President Kagame have registered extraordinary achievements with unbending determination to do what is right for their nation".

The ANC said the elections in Rwanda "were an expression of the will of the people and significant affirmation of their continued faith in the Rwandan Patriotic Front (RPF) and President (Paul) Kagame to guide their country to prosperity and security".

Over 200 diplomats working in Ethiopia, friends of Rwanda and members of the Rwandan community attended the event. "I am convinced that the people of Rwanda has chosen your Excellency in this election because they strongly believe in your efforts to build strong democracy and inclusive institutions in order to ensure long-term stability and a democratic, prosperous future for all Rwandans", said the President of the Republic in his message.

The State Minister also said that this year marked another milestone in the bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Rwanda following the State visit of Prime Minister Hailemariam Desalegn to Rwanda and that her country values its partnership with Rwanda with great commitment.

The ANC congratulates Kagame on his re-election and reaffirms its fraternal support for the RPF, Mantashe said.

The MPLA, the ruling party of Angola also congratulated the President, wishing him "an excellent term".
