The Governor's Office of the Illinois Bicentennial, in partnership with the Illinois Department of Agriculture, the Illinois Craft Brewers Guild and the Associated Beer Distributors of Illinois, will present a craft beer competition at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield Friday through Sunday, Aug. 11-13.

They'll showcase one of their signature beers in an effort to be selected to brew the Official Bicentennial Craft Brew as IL is marking its 200th anniversary of statehood next year. At least 18 craft beer makers are expected to compete. Heidi Brown-McCreery, from the Illinois Bicentennial Commission, says it's a great way to showcase Illinois. It was open to any craft brewer located in the State. Fair-goers can sample each brewery's signature drink and cast their votes. A line-up of state-wide events can be found at Illinois200.com.

The state's long-year bicentennial celebration is slated to to run from December 3, 2017 to December 3, 2018.
