Oklahoma coach Lincoln Riley announced Saturday that redshirt junior Nick Basquine will miss the season with an Achilles injury.

Of OU's returning receivers Basquine, a Norman North product, led the group in receiving yardage last season. Riley, who at 33 years of age is one of the youngest head coaches in Oklahoma's storied football history (albeit two years older than the legendary Bud Wilkinson when he took the head job in 1947), liked what he saw this first week of preseason practice for the 2017 college football season.

Basquine, a former walk-on junior from Norman who earned a scholarship previous year, caught 20 passes for 265 yards and 2 touchdowns in 2016.

Basquine was signing autographs at Meet the Sooners Day wearing a walking boot on his left foot. He entered the season as a candidate for a larger role within the offense, which lacks proven pass-catchers.

"It's one of those injuries you don't see very often", he said at his OU Media Day press conference, adding that it was a non-contact injury.
