Came to bat after the fall of Cheteshwar Pujara's wicket, R Ashwin who along with Ajinkya Rahane helped their team to edge past 400 run mark.

The Tamil Nadu player's advantage is he gets the runs quickly without needing to risk the big shots, relying on pure timing and placements. But before that, Ashwin has reached yet another record in his Test career. The 30-year- old hit a half century in the first innings of the second test against Sri Lanka and became the fastest cricketer to reach the milestone of 2,000 test runs and 250 wickets. He went past great Richard Hadlee of New Zealand who took the same number of wickets and scored runs in 54 Tests.

He went on to bring up his 11th Test fifty in style with a six, but departed nearly immediately after that.

Only the English duo of Ben Stokes (13 times) and Jonny Bairstow (11) have managed more that the Indian off spin wizard, which yet again manifests the solidity that Ashwin adds to India's lower order.

He also became the quickest to score 2000 runs and pick 275 wickets. Ian Botham leads this lead as he achieved this in 42 Test. India's former captain Kapil Dev and Pakistan's former captain Imran Khan achieved this feat in 50 Tests.

Ashwin achieved his feat in the 123 over of their innings when he stepped out to smash Rangana Herath for a fabulous six over long-off.

The Indian off-spinner has achieved the world number one ranking in all-rounder's list and is now number three in the bowler's ranking in Tests.
