The Housing Minister Prakash Mehta can not be accused of corruption merely on the basis of a file noting made by him and that the allegations being made against the senior BJP leader are "politically motivated", said the Maharastra CM, Devendra Fadnavis.

This was said by him days after he ordered an inquiry against the minister over alleged violation of norms in a slum redevelopment project.

Congress leader Hussain Dalwai said Maharashtra minister Prakash Mehta allowed the transfer of building rights to a builder in the SRA scam (slum rehabilitation authority) at mills compound in Tardeo in Mumbai. "Mehta had written on the file that Fadnavis had been informed about the proposal where it was not.this is something serious", said the leader of opposition in Assembly, Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil.

In the Legislative Council, where the Opposition has an upper hand numerically, the Leader of Opposition Dha-nanjay Munde (NCP) warned the government of not letting the House function unless Mehta is removed from his post.

Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis lent support to the under fire Housing Minister Prakash Mehta on Thursday saying that he can not be accused of corruption merely on the basis of a file noting made by him and that the allegations being made against the senior BJP leader are politically motivated, reported PTI. "Mehta had merely given his remarks on the file, over which no further action was taken". If opposition asks for his resignation then this is a politically motivated move.

Mehta, 58, the Gujarati face in the Fadnavis-government, comes from the Ghatkopar area of Mumbai - and has an RSS background.
