5.9-magnitude quake hits Sarangani

A 5.4-magnitude quake struck parts of southern Philippines on Saturday, state seismologists said.

It earlier reported an natural disaster with a weaker 5.4-magnitude at 8:39 a.m.

Instrumental Intensity V was also recorded in General Santos City, I in Zamboanga City. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The agency previously recorded the quake at magnitude 5.4 which struck 22 kilometers southeast of Malapatan, Sarangani at 8:30 a.m.

Phivolcs said no damages were expected from the natural disaster but warned of possible aftershocks.

In late April, three persons, including a pregnant woman, were injured while several government buildings, houses and other private structures were damaged in parts of Sarangani and this city due to a magnitude 7.2 quake that hit the area.
