The Forbes Top Colleges ranking, now in its 10 year, evaluates the direct benefits a college or university provides its students, avoiding metrics merely indicative of prestige such as acceptance rate, endowment, and freshmen SAT scores.

The 2017 ranking is the 10th annual Forbes ranking of best colleges and universities. Instead, the ranking favors variables including alumni salary and student satisfaction.

Schools that offer the best return on investment rank highest on Forbes' list. Valpo awards more than $100 million to undergraduate students annually, with 93 percent of students receiving financial assistance through scholarships, grants, loans and/or campus employment.

"We are pleased that Forbes magazine has ranked the University of Georgia among the nation's top 20 public and private universities for our academic and athletic excellence - on par with such institutions as Michigan, UNC, Yale, Princeton and Notre Dame", said Greg Trevor the UGA executive director of media communications in a press release.
