"A tropical depression could form by early next week over the eastern or central tropical Atlantic Ocean", the National Hurricane Center stated.

Much further eastward, a strong tropical wave is emerging off the western African coast Thursday. Unlike the previous waves that have come before, this system already shows more potential to last as it begins it's long track west through the open Atlantic.

There is a 20 percent chance that the system could form into a tropical cyclone during the next two days and a 50 percent chance of development during the next five days, according to the outlook. This week, rain hammered the region after sweltering heat collided with a low pressure system a day after Tropical Storm Emily landed on the west coast and swept across Central Florida.

As tropical activity continues to increase, now is the time to review your hurricane plans and make sure any alterations from 2016 have been made.

Forecast data is also suggesting that something may develop over the southern Gulf of Mexico or western Caribbean early next week, likely tracking deeper into the Gulf of Mexico regardless of development.
