"This is the final preview before we launch the official Android O platform to consumers later this summer". Everyone is just referring to it as Android O for now. The timeframe looks right, though - Android 7.0 Nougat was pushed to Nexus devices on the 22nd of August past year, so this month's about the right time for the next major build to land. According to a new report, Google might finally release Android O to the public next week.

The first developer preview of the Android 8.0 was released in March followed by the second, third and fourth developer previews in respective months of May, June and July. As sources go he's reasonably reliable, though he notes that it could be pushed. He had claimed that the Android O would be releasing a bit earlier than Android Nougat in 2016. Yesterday, he tweeted on the topic again, saying that the official Android O should be hitting Pixel devices within a week. But with the Google Nexus 6P update to Nougat 7.1.2, things move from good to worse once it's installed.

Google is yet to confirm the official dessert moniker for Android O. The company has not yet confirmed what this version of Android is going to be called. The company's own Pixel handsets will obviously be among the first few devices that receive said update.

OnePlus has confirmed that it would seed the latest firmware to its OnePlus 3, OnePlus 3T and OnePlus 5, and HMD Global too has announced that its new smartphones Nokia 3, Nokia 5, and Nokia 6 would get the OS. Hence, the search engine giant does not always make announcement on the arrival of updates.
