Jose Mourinho has been determined to bring a defensive midfielder to Old Trafford ahead of the 2017/18 campaign and the Red Devils announced the £40million signing of Nemanja Matic from Chelsea on Monday.

Dendoncker has been with Anderlecht since he was a teenager, having come up though their youth ranks that saw him make his first team debut in 2013.

The Ligue 1 side - on the brink of landing Neymar from Barcelona in a world-record deal - are monitoring the defensive midfielder's progress.

Man United reportedly sent scouts to watch Dendoncker in Anderlecht's 0-0 season opener against Antwerp last weekend. His impressive performance has also gained him two global call-ups to date.

Anderlecht sporting director Herman Van Holsbeeck has admitted that he would be forced to sell Belgium worldwide Leander Dendoncker if any club make an offer in the range of £20m-£30m.

He told Het Belang van Limburg: "We want to cherish him, but if a club is willing to pay between €25mi and €35m, we have a problem".

"Against Manchester United, he has shown twice that he has the potential to play at a top European club".

"We would like to see Leander here another year, to work together for a transfer next summer".

The latest update is certainly a boost for Manchester United, who according to multiple reports, are actively pursuing the midfield powerhouse.
