Minneapolis school explosion: Building collapses leaving people trapped in rubble

The explosion occurred on the campus of the Minnehaha Academy, a Christian private school located near the city center.

The Minneapolis Fire Department initially said one person was dead, but later Tweeted that the fatality could not be confirmed.

Minneapolis fire officials report it may have been a natural gas explosion. School building collapse caused by possible natural gas explosion. If you need to pick up a person from the school, pick up on Edmond Blvd. Multiple people are trapped beneath the collapse. Crews are extinguishing the fire, searching for victims and performing extrications.

Tyner said three people were rescued from the roof.

St. Paul Fire Department medics are among the units responding to the scene. KSFY News will update the story when more information becomes available.
